Christian Dahlheim, Head of Group Sales, Volkswagen AG, has revealed statistics about the VW ID.3 deliveries. During the conference call for the company’s H1 2020 financial results, he said that the VW ID.3 launch will take place, as planned, in September.
The waiting time for the VW ID.3 deliveries would be about 8 weeks initially. Customers ordering their unit now will be able to get the delivery by the end of the year. Dahlheim says that 60% of current orders for the ID.3 are from prebookers and the car is not completely sold-out for the year.

After a few weeks of opening orders for ID.3 1st for pre-bookers, Volkswagen will be taking public orders for the ID.3 from July 20, 2020. The ID.3 will be available in seven pre-configured models, which are based on the Pro Performance version with a 58-kWh battery that offers a a range of up to 420 km (WLTP). A 150 kW electric motor drives the rear wheels and makes a maximum torque of 310 Nm to go from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

Update – Volkswagen will be giving a total of 150 VW ID.3 vehicles to employees at its three plants in Germany for everyday testing under real world conditions to analyze data.
VW will be using these cars to collect data on the usage, driving behaviour and individual feedback of the employees to further optimize the potential of the ID.3. The ID.3 testing fleet will be allocated to Volkswagen employees in the company’s Zwickau, Chemnitz and Dresden factories in the coming weeks through a lucky draw. The software on these cars is not the final version and will be receiving updates regularly during the phase of testing.
Deliveries of 30,000 units of ID.3 1st Edition will start in September 2020 in Europe and the ID.3 will be the first car from VW in its plan to offer an electric vehicle in all main segments by 2022. The Volkswagen Group is investing 33 billion Euros as it plans to become the market leader in e-mobility, of which 11 billion euros is directed into the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen is aiming an annual production of 1.5 million electric cars by 2025.
VW is claiming that ID.3 is the world’s first car to be produced and delivered with a neutral CO2 balance and is the car that VW believes will make e-mobility affordable for the masses.

Volkswagen rolls out its range of ID. Chargers
Volkswagen has started handing out its range of wall-mounted chargers called ID. Chargers in Europe. These chargers are aimed at consumers who prefer to charge their EVs at home. Although it’s primarily intended for Volkswagen cars, other EVs with a Type 2 connector can use this charging system. It is now available for purchase online as well as in dealerships across eight countries in Europe and the price starts from €399. The kit will include a charger of charging capacity of up to 11kW, a permanently mounted Type 2 charging cable and an integrated DC residual current protector.
VW says there will be three versions available in the future and two of them, namely the ID. Charger Connect and ID. Charger Pro will be fully connected and manageable via a smartphone. Customers are given access to monitor charging processes, organize remote maintenance and manage regular software updates. The ID. Charger Pro also houses an integrated electricity meter that can show you the exact amount of units consumed for estimating electricity bills.
The basic version that is now available for purchase can be ordered from the ID. Charger webpage with an option of installation. The other two, ID. Charger Connect and ID. Charger Pro models will also be available in the near future. To aid in the installation of these wall-mounted chargers, Volkswagen is working with electrical contractors to provide a comprehensive installation service with expert advice, installation and commissioning of the wall box.
German Policymakers recently got a policy approved by the Federal Cabinet which could mean apartment owners and tenants would be entitled to install electrical charging systems for cars at their parking space. The German Bundestag is still yet to give formal consent.
Thomas Ulbrich, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen E-Mobility says VW is setting new standards for charging in the volume segment. He believes VW will be building a complete charging network around the ID.3 EV over the coming months and the ID. Charger creates a foundation for further charging services to follow.

Volkswagen has announced that the ID.3 1st Edition can be booked from June 17 in Europe and the deliveries are set to begin in early September.
The 1st Edition ID.3 is limited to 30,000 units, which are allocated to the 1st Mover Club that is offered to all pre-bookers who want to take deliveries of the ID.3 at the earliest. Volkswagen will be offering two options for those who have pre-booked the ID.3. One is the delivery of the ID.3 in September along with the exclusive ID.3 1st Mover Club membership that offers various benefits and a software update for two digital functions that will be offered in the beginning of 2021. The software update will enable App Connect function and the distance feature in the head-up display. The second option is to take delivery of the ID.3 in the fourth quarter of 2020, by when the car will be equipped with all software functions. The general orders for the ID.3 will begin four weeks after June 17.
Commenting on the ID.3 1st Mover Club, Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, said that to show their appreciation for the customers’ patience in the long wait, Volkswagen will not charge any leasing rates for the first three months for all 1st Movers.
ID.3 1st edition gets a 58 kWh battery that powers an electric motor mounted at the rear axle. The electric motor generates 150 kW of power and 310 Nm of maximum torque, making the ID.3 to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.4 seconds. The ID.3 1st comes in three configurations – 1st basic, 1st Plus and 1st Max, and all are available with a one-year charging credit.
To be priced under €40,000 in Germany, the basic version of ID.3 1st comes equipped with seat heating and steering wheel heating, a navigation system, ‘Air Care Climatronic’ air conditioning system with 2-zone climate control, armrests at the front, a DAB+ digital radio, 18-inch alloy wheels, ‘Light Assist’, natural voice control and ‘ID. light’. This version also supports 100 kW DC fast charging.
The ID.3 1st Plus will be priced below €46,000 and features ‘Keyless Advanced’ keyless access locking and starting system, rearview camera system, two additional USB-C connections in the rear, exterior ‘Style’ package in silver, LED rear tail lights with dynamic turn signal and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Customers can buy the top-of-the-range ID.3 1st Max for under €50,000 that includes an augmented reality head-up display (AR), large panorama roof, two additional speakers, 20-inch alloy wheels, ‘Travel Assist’ driver assistant including the ‘Side Assist’ lane change assistant and ‘Emergency Assist’ and electrically adjustable front seats with massage function.
Volkswagen is not considering the ID.3 for India, but will start its journey with electric vehicles through introducing the ID.4 next year.
