If you had liked the MG Marvel X (Roewe Marvel X) showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, you should know that the company has revealed an improved version of it in China – the Roewe Marvel-R, that not just introduces a new logo & design but also groundbreaking tech.
The Roewe Marvel-R will be the first car to feature the company’s new R logo and the first product in the R-Line, both of which signify Roewe’s new fully-electric products. The Marvel-R retains the overall shape of the Marvel X but gets a reworked front and rear for shaper looks and aerodynamics. Roewe has co-developed the car with Huawei and the Marvel-R is built on the Barong 5000 technology platform, which is equipped with V2X smart travel tech and 5G smart cockpit. SAIC Motor Corporation, of which Roewe is a part, has been working with Huawei since December 2018.
The Marvel-R gets a completely reworked fascia with a LED light bar running the width of the car and the headlamps are now part of the front bumper. The side profile remains similar to the Marvel X but gets new design for the wheels. At the rear, LEDs dominate with an LED bar connecting the tail lamps. The rear bumper has the illuminated Marvel-R branding.
There’s no update on the powertrain and specifications but we can expect the Marvel-R to offer a range of over 500 km in the NEDC cycle. The Marvel-R is expected to be launched in the second half of 2020 with a price tag of around 260,000 yuan. The Marvel-R could become the first mass-production model in the world with 5G network connectivity.
We’ll update this page as we receive new information in the following weeks.
