Is the Okinawa Cruiser maxi-scooter the Luyuan LEV018?

A few days back, Okinawa teased a maxi-scooter that it will be showcasing at the Auto Expo 2020 as the Okinawa Cruiser. We dug into Chinese e-commerce websites and believe the electric maxi could be a repurposed Luyuan LEV018. Okinawa sells products like the Ridge and the Praise which are similar to Luyuan’s offerings in China in design and features. The logos of the two companies look similar. Though the news should be taken with a grain of salt, the LEV018 offers similar specs that were expected from the Cruiser maxi.

The LEV018 features an 80V/20ah Lead Acid battery that offers a range of up to 80 km and a top speed of 55 km/h. The maxi-scooter doesn’t have direct competition in terms of design and could be compared to Suzuki Burgman 125 and even the Honda PCX in that regard. Weighing 131 kg with the battery, the LEV018 is 23 kg heavier than the Burgman and is longer, wider and shorter.

The battery specs, apart from the range, are not impressive compared to the current crop of electric scooters on sale in India. Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and Ather 450X all have similar riding range but better performance in terms of top speed and better charging times thanks to a Li-Ion battery.

The LEV018 apparently takes 3 to 8 hours to be charged completely. Meanwhile the Cruiser maxi electric scooter is expected to be priced at about Rs. 1 lakh ex-showroom, a price similar to the new competition. Without Li-Ion technology, the scooter would find the going tough.

Okinawa is gearing up to launch another electric vehicle in the form of the Oki100 electric motorcycle. It was showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo 2018 equipped with by a 72V 63Ah lithium-ion battery. The Oki 100 is expected to offer a range of 150 km in a single charge and can attain a top speed of 100 km/h. The battery is swappable, comes with fast charging as standard and can be charged in two hours.
