More electric models from Bajaj Chetak coming soon

Right on the heels of the Chetak launch, Bajaj Auto is working on new Chetak models and the company has already got the prototypes ready. The expansion of the Chetak line-up has been confirmed by Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto.

In due course of time – at this point of time, I cannot say when, but in due course of time, we will certainly expand the Chetak portfolio. We have already got the prototypes in the pipeline.

Bajaj launched the Chetak with a 3 kWh, IP67-rated battery pack that powers a 4 kW power ouput and 16 Nm torque, and offers a range of 95 km. The Chetak is available in two variants Urban and Premium, priced at Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.15 lakh ex-showroom respectively. The electric scooter gets features that include LED headlamp, horseshoe DRLs, split design LED tail lamps, alloy wheels, digital instrument cluster, single-sided suspension, illuminated switchgear, front disc brake, glove box with illuminated USB port, retractable hook for bags and under seat storage.

Now, the new prototypes could be the performance oriented versions of Chetak scooters. Bajaj could be taking a leaf from Ather Energy by launching a model with better performance, better range and better features. Ather’s 450X has an updated battery pack with a new 2.9 kWh battery and 6 kW motor that increase the torque output to 26 Nm.

Bajaj would also be looking at adding more features to the new models. For now, the Chetak is available only in Pune and Bengaluru but soon the availability is expected to expand to more metros including Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.
