Mahindra KUV100 Electric gets unique lights, grille & wheels

Enhancing the teaser released by Mahindra Electric of the Auto Expo lineup, one can spot that the eKUV100 with special wheels featuring a blue tinge on the alloy spokes, headlamp (with shaded side extensions) featuring a blue lens cover, closed grille design, illuminated Mahindra logo and foglamps with a blueish hue.

Mahindra Electric will be launching the eKUV100 at a price of under Rs.9 lakhs ex-showroom in the first quarter of the next fiscal year (April – June 2020). This has been confirmed by Group Managing Director, Pawan Goenka to the media this month. The eKUV100 will be part of Mahindra Electric’s extensive lineup of vehicles at the Auto Expo 2020 which opens on 5 February for the media.

Mahindra eKUV100 is expected to be powered by a 15.9 kWh battery that can be charged in just 55 minutes with a fast charger while a regular charger will take 5 hours and 45 minutes to charge the battery completely. The car is driven by a 40 kW motor and the battery is expected to provide a travel range of 120 km, suitable for intra-city commutes.

Dr Goenka added that with the XUV300, Mahindra is looking to expand the range of EVs. The XUV300 Electric is expected to offer a range of 300 to 400 km on a single charge and would be a high-voltage and high-performance offering.

It is also reported that Mahindra will be investing Rs. 1,000 crore for EV research and development. The investment will be split equally, one half to be used at Mahindra Electric’s Bengaluru facility and the other invested in Mahindra’s Chakan plant to develop high-powered battery chargers, battery cells and critical components.

Mahindra is also has aiming to hold 50 per cent of the shared mobility space by 2030 when the shared vehicle usage is expected to be 35 per cent of the whole market. Mahindra Electric currently has the eVerito sedan, eSupro passenger and cargo vans, Treo and eAlfa Mini range of electric three-wheelers. Mahindra will display its first production quadricycle, the ‘Atom,’ which was showcased as a concept in 2018 Auto Expo, on 5 February.
