Lenovo hops onto the electric scooter segment with its M2 [Update]

Update – Lenovo has launched the M2 electric scooter in China for a price of RMB 1,999 (USD 281).

Lenovo has expanded its business into electric mobility solutions with the launch of its first electric scooter M2, which packages easy mobility with a folding design. Lenovo M2 electric scooter has a patented folding design and has been built using aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and magnesium alloy.

The Lenovo M2 electric scooter, with an IP54 rating, is powered by a 36V 7.5 Ah Lithium-ion battery that offers up to 30 km of range in a single charge. Driven by a 350W wheel motor, the M2 scooter can reach a 25 km/h maximum speed and can drive the scooter up a maximum gradient of 15-degrees. The wheels are shod with 8.5-inch rubber tyres and the electric scooter can support up to 120 kg of payload and has a 14% gradient. The battery (18650 type) can be charged in three to four hours to full capacity and the scooter comes with an LED at the front.

The onboard LCD shows data like speed and distance, while riders can also view information through an app. It will be launched in China initially, and initial reviews peg it as a perfect mode of transportation for short distance trips (10 km) in the city.

Another Chinese brand, Xiaomi recently entered a new product category with the launch of the 70mai A1 and A1 Pro electric scooters that comes with several smart features. Though the company already has foldable electric scooters, the A1 and A1 Pro are single-seat electric scooters that come with a 6.86-inch digital touchscreen display that comes with a range of 60 km and a top speed of 25 km/h. Xiaomi’s latest electric scooters are equipped with several smart features such as 1080p connected video camera, 4G and Bluetooth support, integrated navigation and more. Like Lenovo’s offering, the A1 Series is reserved for the Chinese market at this time.
