The Hyundai Ioniq 5 attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, which was held between 8-11 July 2021. The first all-new model from Hyundai’s EV-exclusive IONIQ brand, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 participated in the Goodwood’s Hillclimb activity in the First Glance category.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was also displayed at the ‘Electric Avenue’ of the event, to have a close glimpse of the neo-retro design language of the car, which seeks inspiration from the Hyundai Pony from the past.
The Ioniq 5 is available to order and comes in specification levels, SE Connect, Premium, Ultimate, besides the special launch edition Project 45, which Hyundai says was oversubscribed by three times in a day after reservations were opened.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the first major public appearances of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 – a remarkable milestone for Hyundai in the path of clean electric mobility. We are thrilled to showcase the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at the event to the enthusiasts and gauge their response towards the car.Ashley Andrew, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor UK
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Design
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a neo-retro design theme based on the 45 Concept from the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019, which was designed on the lines of Hyundai Pony from 1974. The main design highlights include a clamshell hood (first for a Hyundai product), dual V-shaped daytime running lights, silver-finished front, rear and side body mouldings and automatic flush door handles.
On the inside, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a ‘Living Space’ cabin theme, which features a flat floor and reclining seats. Most of the elements and bits of the cabin, including seats and door trims, are made up of eco-friendly sustainable items like plant-based and natural woollen yarns, artificial leather and bio paint made up of plant-based extracts and recycled PET bottles.
Powertrain and performance
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 sits on Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), Hyundai’s dedicated platform for battery electric vehicles. The Ioniq 5 has been made available with three options – 58 kWh rear-wheel drive (range of 240 miles), 73 kWh rear-wheel drive (range of 300 miles) and 73 kWh all-wheel drive (range of 287 miles). The two motors (one on each axle) make a combined power output of 305 PS (224 kW) in the all-wheel drive configuration.
Apart from the standard domestic wall charging and 400V fast charging, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also supports 800V fast charging. The 800V fast-charging system, when combined with a 350 kW fast charger, can charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes or have an additional range of 62 miles (100 km) in charging time of 5 minutes. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 can cover the 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) sprint in 5.2 seconds.
