In February it was confirmed that the first electric scooter from Hero Motocorp will be based on the Maestro Edge with its launch pegged in 2021. Now pictures of the eMaestro concept are out revealing many new details.
91Wheels has published pictures of the eMaestro Proto concept (this is the name for now) that was announced at the Hero World 2020 event. From a distance the Maestro electric looks like the regular Maestro Edge but has several unique design elements like the blacked out LED headlamp, front suspension the wheels and the motor hub finished in copper brown. The Maestro electric uses a belt driven motor.
The ride modes like the drive, park and reverse can be selected from the left side of the handlebar. You can also expect a fully-digital instrument cluster in the production version.
There are no other details revealed about the powertrain but the eMaestro Proto will be powered by a Lithium-ion battery and driven by a powerful permanent magnet motor. Features like cloud connectivity, keyless start/stop will also be included. Upon launch, which is expected to happen in the first half of 2021, the Proto will compete with the likes of Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X and TVS iQube.
Hero Motocorp has its 30-35 per cent stake in Ather Energy and given the size of the Maestro, a powertrain similar to that of the 450X could give it an edge over existing players. The Ather 450X uses a 2.9 kWh battery pack and a 6 kW motor with a range of around 85 km in a single charge.
