Grinntech to manufacture battery and battery management system in Tamil Nadu

Grinntech has signed an MoU to establish a battery and battery management system or BMS manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The start-up, founded by IIT (Roorkee) classmates Nikhilesh Mishra and Puneet Jain, specialises in Lithium-ion batteries for EVs and energy storage systems.

Grinntech already has a functioning R&D centre and a pilot manufacturing facility in Chennai. Now, the company plans to invest close to INR 100 crore in R&D, product development and production facilities. Its Lithium-ion batteries are suitable for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, light vehicles and farm tractors. It says that it is in talks with several OEMs and fleet operators to supply its batteries and related systems.

Grinntech’s current battery range includes a Pintail 12-volt unit, a Robin 72 72V unit for electric two-wheelers, a Shikra 48V unit for electric rickshaws and a Falcon 96V unit for electric cars, electric LCVs, electric light tractors, etc. It is worth noting that the company’s operations are overseen by Lakshmi Narayan, the former Vice Chairman of Cognizant and Dr. V Sumatran, the former Vice Chairman of Ashok Leyland. Both have joined the start-up and are among its Board of Directors.
