Fisker Ocean electric SUV confirmed for India, to be locally assembled

Fisker Ocean, the electric SUV from Fisker Inc, will be launched in India according to a report from NDTV carandbike. First teased by Chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker more than a year ago, Fisker Ocean will be officially unveiled at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, to be held from 7th to 10th January 2020. The electric SUV will go on sale in the USA in late 2021, followed by Europe and China in 2022 after which it could find its way into India.

Talking to carandbike, Henrik Fisker, Chairman and CEO, Fisker Inc., said:

We designed our Fisker Ocean EV to be extremely space-efficient, and we can offer lower-cost versions that would be very competitive in India, in the mid-market segment. Ultimately we may look at the local assembly in India to lower-cost further. We want to deliver the world’s most sustainable premium electric vehicle to Indian consumers through our App. By going directly to our customers we save cost that we can pass on to our customers.

Fisker Ocean Rear Three Quarter View
The Fisker Ocean gets a ‘California’ Mode. Pressing the button moves nine body panels – three windows on each side of the SUV, the rear hatch’s glass into the body, and the two panels that make up the solar roof – to open at once, for a convertible-like experience. The roof of the SUV also has solar cells that can offer up to 1,000 miles of range per year.

While there haven’t been many details about its specifications, the Fisker Ocean is expected to be powered by an 80 kWh battery offering a range of up to 480 km and the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in about three seconds. Fast charging option will be available and the customers can choose to buy two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive variants.

In line with its “world’s most sustainable vehicle” motto, Ocean SUV will get a vegan interior with the carpet made from recycled nylon that is sourced from abandoned fishing line pulled from the oceans and other aquatic habitats; eco-suede materials from recycled polyester and other recycled plastics and rubber repurposed from tire manufacturing waste.

Fisker has already announced that the Ocean will be made available through an app-based leasing program.
