Renault Kwid electric teased, to be unveiled at Auto Expo 2020

Renault India is gearing up for an exciting 2020 with a wide range of vehicles to be displayed at the Auto Expo 2020, which opens on 5 February. Now, Renault has teased the Kwid electric in a new video.

EVW understand Renault has assigned an ‘Electric Corner’ at its stand at the Auto Expo where it is likely to display its electric technologies, Zoe, Twizy and Kwid K-ZE electric cars. The idea is to demo its global EV range and technology to Indians before starting sales of electric models here next year. One may also watch out for the French brand’s BS6 range (sporting unchanged looks) and perhaps an early look at its first compact SUV that goes on sale in the second half of the year.

Renault Kwid K-ZE

Based on the Kwid, the Renault K-ZE or City K-ZE as it is called in China is the sixth model in Renault’s full-electric lineup and was launched in the Chinese market last year. Under the hood is a 26.8 kWh battery and a 33 kW electric motor that deliver a range of 271 km (NEDC rated). The K-ZE in fast charge mode takes 50 minutes to charge from 0% to 80%, and in slow charge, it takes 4 hours to charge to 100%. The Kwid electric could be easily launched in India for a highly affordable price as the only its electrical components need to be imported.

The K-ZE, if launched in India, could become the country’s most affordable electric vehicle from its combination of high localization and low-cost engineering.

Renault Zoe

The second-generation Zoe was tested in India by Bengaluru-based electric cab aggregator Lithium Urban Technologies for its use. Pictured is the 3rd model unveiled last year.

The first generation Renault Zoe, which was Renault’s first purely-electric model, was launched in late 2012 with a 22 kWh battery and came with a 150 km range. The second-gen Zoe in 2016 got a 41 kWh Z.E. 40 battery that doubled the range to 300 km. Now in its third generation, the new Zoe gets a 52 kWh battery that delivers a range of up to 390 km. The electric hatchback is driven by 100 kW motor that produces power equivalent to 135 PS and 245 Nm of torque from zero rpm. The Zoe can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 10 seconds and has a limited top speed of 140 km/h.

Renault Twizy

Renault Twizy
The Twizy is an electric quadricycle in Europe – more of a four-wheeled motorcycle with a roof than a car.

Renault Twizy is a two-seater compact EV that is powered by a 6.1 kWh lithium-ion battery with a range of 100 km. Driven by a 13 kW motor, the Twizy can reach a top speed of 80 km/h. With a regular charger, the Twizy can be charged to 100 per cent in 3.5 hours and it doesn’t support fast charging. It is sold as quadricycle in Europe and does not come with the conventional safety features. It has a tiny turning radius of 3.4 m.
