After unveiling the car last November which it thinks is the perfect solution for city travel, Amsterdam-based startup Squad Mobility has added more features for its Squad Solar City car with doors and air-conditioning.
Measuring at 2 metres in length and 1 metre in width, the price of the Squad car starts from € 5,750 excluding taxes. The company has announced that the two-seater Squad solar city car will get two door options – half doors for splash protection and full doors with windows for full weather protection. Squad Mobility has stated that after they revealed the car, many customers reached out to the company and asked for increased weather protection. The doors, which are removable units, also come in a time where protection is taking the lead in the current Coronavirus crisis. Built with a full roll cage, the Squad city car combines the advantages of a scooter and a small car with a storage compartment, seat belts and four-wheel stability.
Initially, the Squad will be offered in the L6e light 4-wheeled vehicle category, with a top speed of 45 km/h. A more powerful L7 category will be launched later with a top speed of 80 km/h. Powering the car is a two-unit portable battery pack offering a range of up to 100 km (50 km per battery). It can also be charged through solar power and the roof-mounted solar cells add up to 20 km of range per day. Two in-wheel motors in the rear wheels drive the vehicle and have a combined output of 4 kW.

The Squad car has been developed specifically for shared mobility solutions, where the shared mobility operators can enjoy the advantages of the compact footprint, automatic solar charging and exchangeable batteries. Deliveries are expected to begin in the last quarter of 2021 in European Union. Squad Mobility has also planned subscription and lease models and is targeting a lease price of around € 100 per month.
The Squad will be homologated initially for the EU market, but pre-orders from outside the EU are also being accepted now on the company website. Distribution outside the EU will be decided depending on the volume of pre-orders from those markets.
