Bajaj Auto’s first electric scooter as unveiled last year is available in two variants – Bajaj Chetak Urbane and Bajaj Chetak Premium – priced at Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.15 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Pune and Bengaluru). Initially, the Chetak will be made available in Pune (through 13 dealerships) and Bengaluru (4 dealerships) and later expanded to metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

The e-scooter will be sold via Pro-Biking dealerships which now retail KTM bikes. The test ride units will be available from the end of the month.

Bajaj Chetak Urbane & Bajaj Chetak Premium

The Chetak Premium variant gets a metallic body and wheel colour, tan seat covers, dark grey floor mat and front disc brakes. The Chetak Urbane, fitted with a front drum brake and missing out on metallic paint for the body and wheels, comes in Citrus Rush, Velutto Rosso and Indigo Metallic colours, while Chetak Premium comes in Cyber White, Hazelnut and Brooklyn Black colours.

The Chetak is powered by a 4 kW motor with 16 Nm torque and gets a range of 85 km in Sport mode and 95 km in Eco mode. The Chetak’s 3 kWh Lithium-Ion battery does not support fast charging and can be charged to 100% in five hours and to 25% in an hour. It has a ‘kick-down’ mode that can be activated when there is a need to overtake.

With a retro-modern design, the Chetak is equipped with a round LED headlamp, horseshoe daytime running lights in the front, split design LED tail lamps, triangular side view mirrors, wide seat, alloy wheels and a digital instrument cluster. Other features include single-sided suspension, illuminated switchgear, alloy wheels, front disc brake, glove box with illuminated USB port, retractable hook for bags and under-seat storage.

The Chetak Electric also gets a reverse mode that can be used to back out of a parking space at the touch of a button. The information of the e-scooter can also be accessed through an app that lets you receive notifications in case of an accident or unauthorized access, locate the scooter, riding information and tips. Bajaj Auto is offering 1-year free data subscription with the electric scooter.

The Chetak has a 3 year or 50,000 km warranty (whichever comes earlier). It is offered with three free services which are spaced out yearly or after every 12,000 km.

The Bajaj Chetak competes with the Ather 450 which is priced at Rs.1.14 lakh (on-road Bengaluru). The Ather 450 gets a more powerful 5.4 kW motor and has a range of 75 km, 65 km and 55 km for Eco, Ride and Sport modes respectively. The Ather 450 is currently available in Bengaluru and Chennai with Delhi, Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad lined up for a launch this year.
