Ather Energy has started delivering the Ather 450X in select cities this week. The company has launched the electric scooter in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune. In images tweeted by the company’s official handle, customers in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad have received their scooters, with the first batch of the Ather 450X Series 1 also handed to early bird customers.
Ather Energy started accepting bookings for its new electric scooters last month where customers in Bengaluru and Chennai could pay the full amount of their new Ather electric scooter. The company plans to manufacture up to 8,000 units per month once it moves into its Hosur factory. For the moment though, it says it plans to deliver vehicles to customers within three weeks from the booking date.
Ather Energy plans to put the Ather 450 Plus and the Ather 450X on sale in a total of eleven cities by Q1 2021. The company is offering Ather 450X test rides in Ahmedabad and Pune and the delivery commencement date for these and many other cities is November 2020.
The featured image shows an Ather 450X final production unit given for a test ride to instagram.com user iamstrell. This is the first time that Ather Energy is offering a product in western India. Until now, it was present in the south (Bengaluru and Chennai). The company has tied-up with Kataria Group in Ahmedabad, BU Bhandari in Pune and Kamal Motors in Mumbai for the dealerships and workshops.
Ather 450X deliveries in Hyderabad, Kochi and Kolkata would also begin this month. In December this year, Ather Energy will start delivering Ather 450X in Delhi and Mumbai. Coimbatore and Kozhikode, the final cities to receive the new electric scooter under the company’s Phase I expansion, will have to wait until Q1 2021.
The Ather 450X is an improved version of the Ather 450 which has been discontinued. It has a 2.61 kWh battery instead of the old model’s 2.4 kWh unit, along with a new and more efficient battery management system (BMS). The new BMS allows 45% speedier charging rate and brings a significant increase in standby time, meaning that the battery won’t drain as easily. The battery cells are also different, 21700-type Li-ion as against the old model’s 18650-type Li-ion.

There’s also a cheaper version called Ather 450 Plus, with lower performance parameters and the omission of Bluetooth.
