Ather 450X & Ather 450 Plus going to Goa in 2021

Ather Energy revealed this morning on twitter.com that it wants to enter Goa as part of its expansion drive in 2021. This is the first time the company has talked about entering the Goan market. The company plans to have showrooms in 20 cities by the end of 2021 and is considering an exports pilot program early next year as growth avenues.

Ather Energy currently sells its EVs in Bengaluru and Chennai. Soon, it will enter Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai. In Pune and Mumbai, pre-orders are open and the company expects to start offering test rides in a few weeks, the company said on twitter.com in the following post. The launch will take place later this year, it added. In Hyderabad, it is likely to launch the 450X within days. It will launch the new electric scooter in Delhi NCR (Noida and Gurugram), Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Kochi and Kolkata also this year.

Ather 450X test ride units have been dispatched from Ather Energy’s Bengaluru factory to Indian cities, ElectricVehicleWeb.in had learned last month. The company would be holding test rides and experiences of the scooter with the demo units to give prospective buyers a chance to feel the product. It said that these activities are planned keeping the safety of the customer at the forefront and that it is considering doorstep test rides. The Ather 450X deliveries are set to begin in October and the company has started preparing for the launch.

The Ather 450X is powered by a 2.9 kWh battery and 6 kW motor with an output of 26 Nm. It can sprint from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.29 seconds and 0 to 60 km/h in 6.50 seconds. Through its design, performance and OTA feature, the 450X is differentiated from the iQube and Chetak as well as Chinese-derived scooters.

Ather Energy received an investment of Rs. 84 crore from Hero MotoCorp in July. To meet the projected demand for its products, the company will open a new manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 1,00,000 units in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Future plans include setting up the Ather Grid fast charging points across India as well. An Ather electric motorcycle is on the mind of founder Tarun Mehta, but it would take a few years for it to see daylight.

The Ather 450X was announced in January and the electric scooter had received a rousing response from customers and the internet community initially. It led Ather to launch a Collector’s Edition to celebrate the success.

Ather 450X to be INR 14k cheaper in Delhi

The Ather 450X will cost INR 14,000 lower even before it goes on sale in the national capital. Since the time the electric scooter was announced (January 2020), there’s a new state subsidy for electric vehicles in Delhi. Under the Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy, 2020, the Ather 450X will be eligible for a subsidy of INR 14,000. The Ather 450X price in Delhi will be announced in the coming weeks even as the brand is upbeat on the prospect of selling its vehicle in an EV-friendly setting.

The Ather 450X Collector’s Edition, announced earlier this year, is another development in 2021 that is worth noting. It has the exact same features and performance of the normal Ather 450X but the difference is the inside-out design. While there are no photos, we can concur that it would be fitted with translucent body panels revealing the e-scooter’s internal components.

The Collector’s Edition gets features such as regenerative braking, 4G and Bluetooth connectivity, 7.0-inch touchscreen instrument cluster, that are available on the 450X. While there is no change in the price, performance or features for the 450X Collector’s Edition, there was a catch – it was only available to the customers who had reserved the scooter before January 28, 2020.

The Ather 450X is priced at Rs 1,59,000 in Bengaluru (Incl. GST and FAME II incentive) and the Ather 450 Plus is priced at Rs 1,49,000 in Bengaluru (Incl. GST and FAME II incentive). The second ownership model available for the 450 is battery subscription. You can pay Rs 99,000 for the vehicle and a monthly subscription starting of either Rs 1,699 (Plus) or Rs 1,999 (Pro). The price is the same for the limited edition.
