What is believed to be a 2022 Kia Proceed has been spied undisguised, courtesy of Instagram user kia_club_official (via thekoreancarblog.com). The MY2022 update is a mid-life refresh to the affordable shooting brake. Spotting of the facelift without camouflage is an indicator that the reveal could happen soon, as early as the next quarter.
Design & Features
While Hyundai delivers drastic design changes with the mid-cycle refresh, Kia generally takes a conservative approach. The sister brand relies on subtle design revisions, and that was expected in ProCeed’s case. The shooting brake’s impressive exterior looks enticing today, three years after its debut, and there’s no excuse to change what is working well.
The spy pictures published in the source link reveals a subtle cosmetic refresh for the Proceed. The revised Proceed in the spy shot is likely in the high-performance GT variant.
The 2022 Kia Proceed GT features a revised high gloss black ‘Tiger Nose’ grille with a straightened-out lower section, new, L-shaped red decor elements at the outer ends of the lower grille, and reshaped gloss black side air intakes. The bumper design looks the same for the most part, while the lamp clusters have undergone a change ditching the ‘ice cube’ LED daytime running lights. Like recent Kia launches, the 2022 Kia ProCeed shooting brake could feature the ‘Tiger Eyeline’ LED daytime running lights. The bonnet carries the new brand logo introduced in January.
Elsewhere, the new Kia ProCeed should feature a new rear bumper, tweaked taillight clusters, and new alloy wheel options. Inside, features may include an upgraded 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and haptic buttons on either side of the screen.
To the 2021MY, Kia included city and pedestrian protection to the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) system, and cyclist protection comes standard on all GT-Line S variants and manual GT-Line of the Proceed. The Advanced Driving Assistance Pack (ADAP) can be added to other trims if the user requires it. The 1.6L diesel engine was discontinued in some markets during the model year transition. Expect these changes to apply in the incoming model.
Kia may want to fast-track the introduction of the Proceed facelift in its primary market of Europe, where for the year ended 2020, the majority of the cars sold exceeded their fleet target of 95 gm of CO2/km by 13 gm/km. Hyundai-Kia, thanks to a calculation called ‘Supercredits’ that allows BEVs and PHEVs below 50 g/km to be counted twice, could achieve the target. However, to avoid fines in the future, the overall CO2 emissions of even the combustion engine products must come down.
On the current Proceed, Kia offers a 48V mild hybrid system, with its 1.5 T-GDI turbo-petrol engine option. Kia specifically lists in its brochure for the German market that customers who do not want any electrification in their Proceed can opt for the same 1.5 T-GDI sans the 48V system or a 1.6 T-GDI.
Going forward though, owing to the stringent fleet emission target, we think Kia’s EcoDynamics+ 48V MHEV would span the entire variant lineup of the 2022 Proceed, as sister company Hyundai has standardized the MHEV on its i30 range (i30 hatch, i30 Tourer and i30 Fastback), and newer launches like the i20 are available solely as MHEV.
We’ll update this page as we find new information on the Proceed family.
