As the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer debut gets closer, more of its main details are emerging. Here are 5 things you need to about the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer:
The renewed Jeep Grand Wagoneer will have a rear-wheel drive drivetrain layout, although a 4×4 system would be standard. Reports say that it will be based on the platform of the RAM 1500. One can expect some refinements for superior comfort and driving dynamics in that case.
All-new turbo engine
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is expected to be offered with FCA’s first six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine codenamed ‘Tornado’. This unit will have a displacement of just under 3.0 litres, as per an allpar.com report. It could be equipped with a mild-hybrid system. For power-hungry customers, there could be a 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine option.
Plug-in hybrid variant
The reborn Jeep Grand Wagoneer will likely be among the first Jeep SUVs available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in USA and Canada. According to sources of moparinsiders.com, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrid’s pure electric range will be around 30 miles (48 km). Like every other Jeep plug-in hybrid SUV, it will be a ‘4xe’ variant. So, ideally, the electric motor should be powering the other axle that would otherwise be left with no propulsion system.
The Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe ride on a FWD platform and have an electric motor on the rear axle to become eAWD (electric all-wheel drive) vehicles. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the smaller Jeep Wagoneer, on the other hand, will reportedly sit on a RWD platform. So, there could be some significant differences with respect to the components used and their placement.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrid’s internal combustion engine could be a version of the aforementioned six-cylinder engine. As for the transmission, there will be an 8-speed automatic sourced from ZF. The Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid, which is said to debut later this year, will utilize the same transmission.

Being FCA’s new flagship SUV, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will pack the best of new-age technologies it has developed, including a frameless 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen infotainment system and Level 3 autonomous driving systems, as well as a fully digital instrument cluster and a switchable electronic rearview mirror. In fact, the company has just released a teaser of the upcoming SUV’s electric rearview mirror demonstrating its clear feed obtained from a dedicated camera.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and the standard-wheelbase 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will debut this fall and go on sale in 2021.
What are the Jeep Grand Wagoneer alternatives?
The Grand Wagoneer variants will compete on the market with the Range Rover, Lexus LX and Cadillac Escalade.
