The reborn Jeep Grand Wagoneer will likely be among the first Jeep SUVs available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in USA and Canada. According to sources of moparinsiders.com, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrid’s pure electric range will be around 30 miles (48 km). Like every other Jeep plug-in hybrid SUV, it will be a ‘4xe’ variant. So, ideally, the electric motor should be powering the other axle that would otherwise be left with no propulsion system.
The Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe ride on a FWD platform and have an electric motor on the rear axle to become eAWD (electric all-wheel drive) vehicles. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the smaller Jeep Wagoneer, on the other hand, will reportedly sit on a RWD platform. So, there could be some significant differences with respect to the components used and their placement.
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrid’s internal combustion engine could be a version of the aforementioned six-cylinder engine. As for the transmission, there will be an 8-speed automatic sourced from ZF. The Jeep Wrangler plug-in hybrid, which is said to debut later this year, will utilize the same transmission.
