2021 Suzuki Solio & Bandit (Hybrid) leaked ahead of debut this month

The 2021 Suzuki Solio and its fancy cousin 2021 Suzuki Bandit have leaked. creative311.com has published pictures of the Japanese kei cars’ catalog and says that their debut will take place on 4 December 2020.

The next-gen Suzuki Solio and next-gen Suzuki Bandit both have an aggressive design compared to their predecessors. The former features sleeker and sharper headlamps with LED DRLs, a slimmer upper grille, more athletic bumper and a larger lower grille. On the sides, the new greenhouse looks wider and the character lines are a welcome change. At the rear, there are vertical tail lamps instead of L-shaped horizontal tail lamps on the 2021 Suzuki Solio. The full-width chrome stripe may be a bit too much for some.

2021 Suzuki Bandit front quarters interior
The 2021 Suzuki Bandit is reminiscent of the MG Hector in India due to its similar upper front fascia. However the split headlamp assembly is an emerging global SUV design trend.

The 2021 Suzuki Bandit looks like a mini MG Hector from the front, due to the similarity in the upper grille and LED DRLs and to an extent even the bumper.

2021 Suzuki Solio interior & features

The interior of the 2021 Suzuki Solio and 2021 Suzuki Bandit is less cluttered compared to that of their predecessors. While the layout is the same, the instrument panel and centre console seem to have shrunk. The steering wheel has apparently remained completely unchanged.

A welcome addition inside the cabin is a colour head-up display, which should be a boon especially for drivers finding the central positioning of the instrument panel inconvenient. Also new is a bigger, 9-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. Electric parking brake has been given a miss in the new generation Suzuki kei cars. On the plus side, the 360-degree camera system has been added to the Suzuki Solio and Suzuki Bandit.

The 2021 Suzuki Solio and 2021 Suzuki Bandit are 80 mm/70 mm longer and 20 mm wider than the old models. Their rear seats and luggage compartment are also wider. Under the hood, there’s a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine equipped with mild-hybrid technology. The engine sends drive to the wheels via a CVT. The next-gen models would also receive strong hybrid variants, details of which will come shortly.

Solio for India?

Maruti Suzuki has been testing the old Suzuki Solio for some time near Gurgaon, and based on frequent sightings, there have been rumours about the launch of a Maruti Solio. However, there’s no truth to these reports, as the company is relying on India specific models in the base car segments that have a manufacturing cost suitable to Indian budgets. Secondly Maruti regularly imports Japanese car models for testing and validation through its Indian R&D centre.

Maruti Suzuki presented a previous generation of the Solio at the 2012 Auto Expo purely from the perspective to showcase what it sells in Japan. Keeping up with today’s demand, Maruti’s product pipeline is flush with SUVs, reportedly 4 new models are due by 2023.

When will be Suzuki Solio launched in India?

Maruti Suzuki does not plan to launch the Suzuki Solio in India.
